Rich in history and tradition, Grand Hôtel Stockholm dates back more than 130 years and occupies prime position on the city's waterfront. A timeless classic, it has played a pivotal role in shaping Stockholm as the cosmopolitan city that it is today. The relationship between Grand Hôtel and Stockholm is one that is symbiotic; both revel in their duality: traditional and forward looking, worldly and innocent. One of Scandinavia's leading luxury hotels, Grand Hôtel Stockholm has borne witness to some of the world's greatest achievements and to this day continues to makes its presence felt far beyond its shores. Since 1901, the Nobel Prize laureates and their families have all been guests of Grand Hôtel and the list of royalty, heads of state and artists who have stayed is impressive. Grand Hôtel is located next to the National Museum and opposite the Royal Palace and Old Town. The Parliament buildings and Royal Opera House are within view, the best shopping district is but five minutes away and the docks for boats to the archipelago are situated just 25-metres from the hotel. Guest & Public Areas The Grand Hôtel offers 376 rooms, of which 42 are suites. The Princess Lilian Suite, measuring a huge 330 sqm and offering panoramic views over Stockholm, is the most spectacular of them all. The Flag Suite and Nobel Suite are both renowned, with astounding views from the 7th floor. All individually designed, each room has its own distinctive character and colourful history, ranging from traditional to contemporary in design. The hotel's interiors are held to be of such great historical significance that they have been designated as a "Swedish National Treasure", notably the Spegelsalen (Hall of Mirrors), Vinterträdgården (the Winter Garden) as well as a number of the other original function rooms. As such, the Grand Hôtel consults the Swedish National Museum before embarking on refurbishment projects. In line with The Grand's ever-evolving host of facilities, 2007 saw the opening of 4 new capacious state-of-the-art conference rooms in addition to the 19 historic meetings- and banquetting rooms. The Grand, recently nominated as Europe's Leading Conference Hotel for the 2008 World Travel Awards, has also added SeaLounge to its extensive in-house meeting and incentive offerings, which is a 61 foot power yacht available for hire for meetings and business travel groups. Gastronomy Equipped with one of the most modern hotel kitchens in Europe, food and drink has always played an important role at the hotel. Grand Hôtel has been home to many popular restaurants and bars and has showcased its wide ranging gastronimic skills at a host of extravagant parties. Renowned Swedish Chef, Mathias Dahlgren opened his eponymous restaurant, Mathias Dahlgren at Grand Hôtel in May 2007. The restaurant was awarded a Michelin Star in March 2008, with the additional distinction of being only one of five restaurants in Europe classed within the "Rising Star For Two" category. The restaurant offers two different dining experiences which complement each other through the dual concept of Matsalen (The Dining Room) and Matbaren (The Food Bar) and a daily-changing menu. ‘With a Swedish identity on a regional platform, I have created a new cuisine, which is as open to local as global ingredients and influences, a cuisine based on natural products and natural taste - the natural cuisine' says Managing Director and Creative Director, Mathias Dahlgren. These local and international influences not only resonate through Mathias's kitchen, but also through every detail of the restaurant's design, a result of leading British Designer and Creative Director, Ilse Crawford's intepretation. The Veranda restaurant serves Swedish traditional food in a contemporary fashion and is celebrated not just for its views but also for being the only Swedish restaurant to serve traditional Smörgåsbord all year round. 2008 will see The Veranda continue its seasonal ‘themed' menus, which will focus on Swedish culinary traditions according to the season. Over the years, Grand Hôtel has built up an award-winning wine cellar housing over 20,000 bottles, including a selection from its opening year in 1874. Named after the hotel's founder, The Cadier Bar, with its award winning drinks, bartenders, location and buzzing atmosphere, has an extensive cocktail menu serving drinks from all over the world. Its recent refurbishment has seen the popularity of The Cadier Bar soar, offering locals and hotel guests alike à la carte breakfast, Weekend brunch and its signature Afternoon Tea, consisting of its own blend of tea and traditional teatime delicacies, served with a Swedish twist. Marketing Alliances Grand Hôtel Stockholm is delighted to join the InterContinental Group as a franchisee, effective from January 2008. As the only InterContinental hotel in Scandinavia, Grand Hôtel will retain its name and branding and will continue to run its highly acclaimed signature service, interior décor and food & beverage offerings independently under the franchise agreement, while making a strategic move to position itself globally by sharing the InterContinental's international sales and reservation system. In addition, The Grand Hôtel will also continue its membership with The Leading Hotels of the World further strengthening its international presence More Information! |
